There's nothing quite like the evergreen Christmas tree for to inspire memories and serve as the centerpiece for family traditions. But did you know that there are great kitsch alternatives to the traditional Christmas tree?
I just put up my Christmas tree ( yes, I know that's similar to how I started my last post, but go with me). It got me thinking about what Christmas trees would be like on the islands. I know that traditional trees are shipped in but they are bound to be expensive and can't do well in the island heat.
How about the tropics poster-child of trees? The palm would make a great Christmas tree. So I went hunting for examples of pre-lit artificial trees. I found a wide selection.
The great thing about looking for these trees were reading the user reviews. On more than one review, people mentioned that they liked their trees so much they found ways to use them year round. They would go so far as picking up ornaments for different holidays.
Maybe you don't want to give up your traditional tree, but like the idea of going a little tropical. There's kitsch for that.
And, just to tie everything together, what better way to decorate your new alternative Christmas tree, than the string lights featured on yesterday's post. Aloha.

I wish I had thought of this. How cool would it be to have a decorated banana tree or palm instead of the plain-jane evergreen? Next year....
ReplyDeleteIt's never too late. Through the magic of the holidays and the tenacity of FedEx, you could have the best of both worlds. And... that's the best price I've ever seen on the 5' tree from Beals of Florida. Good luck.
